A new leaflet featuring unknown walks around Richmond is launched this month.

It will lead visitors and residents to new vantage points from which they can see the town’s castle – as well as learn more about its Norman origins.

‘Castle Walks’, which has been produced by the Richmondshire Ramblers to coincide with the Richmond950 celebrations this year, has been supported by the District Council with a £600 grant from its Area Partnership grant scheme.

“We hope this new leaflet will encourage local people to explore the town more and see the castle from one of our four suggested vantage points,” said Richmond Ramblers Secretary and Project Lead, Janet Milburn.

“And when restrictions allow visitors back into the district we are ready to point them in the same direction!   We want to enhance Richmond as a tourist destination as well as a place for educational visits – this new leaflet is ideal for secondary students on a field trip.”

Richmond950 celebrates 950 years since the Castle was built and the town built up around it – organisers are planning a host of events once covid19 restrictions allow.

Richmondshire District Council’s Area Partnership grant scheme sees each of the five partnerships – serving Central Richmondshire, Lower Wensleydale, The Garrison, North Richmondshire and the Upper Dales – able to allocate cash from a £50,000 pot to schemes that will benefit the community.
