The chief executive of a Harrogate charity has spoken of her joy after customers and staff at its care home received their Covid vaccines.

Jackie Snape, who said there was a ‘party atmosphere’ during the weekend inoculation session at Disability Action Yorkshire’s Claro Road home, also praised the efficiency of the visiting vaccine team.

In less than 45 minutes, a total of 59 residents and staff were given the Oxford vaccine.

Mrs Snape said: “This is the first stage in getting back to some form of normality and I’m happy to say the light at the end of the tunnel has just got a little bit brighter.

“The customers were so excited and it was a like a party. The team who administered the vaccine were fantastic and super-efficient – they were done and dusted in less than three-quarters-of-an-hour.

“Many of our customers have been isolating for almost a year and it’s not been easy for them, their family and friends.

“Since November, visits have been taking place through open windows, which isn’t particularly nice at this time of year, and both of the homes’ wings are operating as separate ‘bubbles’.

“However, despite the vaccinations, we won’t be taking any undue and unnecessary risks. We will continue to follow guidelines and only begin to relax when we are told we can do, and ultimately feel safe to do so.”

The launch comes after England’s chief medical officer Professor Chris […]
