A million pound scheme of improvements to Richmondshire District Council’s housing stock will be completed by the end of this month.

The authority’s 2020/21 Housing Improvement Programme has seen work undertaken in individual homes and sheltered housing schemes throughout the last 12 months – working under tight restrictions as a result of the covid19 pandemic.

Forty new bathrooms and 48 new kitchens have been installed in properties in Leyburn, Richmond, Colburn, Bainbridge, Melsonby, Newton le Willows and Carperby.  On top of that homes across the district have benefitted from the installation of 92 new heating systems. A new lift, boiler and communal television aerial have also been fitted at Thornborough Hall Gardens in Leyburn.

“All this work futureproofs our housing stock and provides residents with modern facilities that will improve their lifestyles,” said Council spokesperson, Councillor Philip Wicks.

“Our Home Improvement Programme has remained operational during the pandemic working under strict covid guidelines and only happening when tenants are happy and want them doing.

“To be able to complete this amount of investment during the last 12 months is a huge testament to our staff and contractor teams – we now look forward to the next 12 months programme of work which will see another £1m allocated to improve our homes.”

The Housing Improvement Programme work has been completed by principal contactor, Kier.
